This Ottonian sacramentary using a lavish embellishment and precious metals such as gold and silver on the cover suggests that the manuscript was given special honor in the cathedral of Saint Aubin in Namur. The manuscript was probably kept in the treasury and only used on special feast days. Energizing forms and motives from classical Roman art, the illuminators established an impressively calm and majestic style.
