This Jusepe Leonardo canvas celebrates the Dutch-occupied fort of Jülich capitulating to the siege led by the Spanish under Ambrosio Spinola. The troubled painter saw his petition to be the official court painter denied in 1638; ten years later he died in a sanitarium in Zaragoza.
