Danish Social Realist artist Hans Andersen Brendekilde originally studied sculpture but found his true love to be painting. Brendekilde created sympathetic depictions of Denmark’s poor farmers and country laborers. The artist’s work seen here is a breathtaking vision of fall, masterfully colored, with leaves, light, and shade expertly executed with a superbly gifted hand.
