Anglo-American artist Benjamin West was born in the colony of Pennsylvania, but took up residence in London, becoming President of the Royal Academy. The self-taught West produced history and mythological works, such as this image of the legendary King of Troy, who grieved his son Hector who was murdered by the vengeful Greeks.
