Italian artist Vittorio Reggianini created a variety of genre scenes, costume paintings of the middle classes, and portraits. His genre works are often infused with a sweet sensuality. In Reggianini’s “La Soiree”, we see four maidens in a drawing-room of the earlier part of the century, in a composition soft with its pastel palette and emphasis on smooth textures.
