Italian sculptor Francesco Barzaghi was born in Milan and apprenticed in the Studios of Antonio Tantardini. He became famous for his many marble female figures. Here we see Phryne, the ancient Greek courtesan from the fourth century. She is known for her trial for impiety which she won by baring her breast.
