George Romney was a gifted and prolific painter whose portraits were in high demand during his lifetime. He was considered an equal to his peer's and countrymen Joshua Reynolds and Thomas Gainsborough. Here you see Romney’s young sitter Marianne Holbech with her beloved Taffy. Marianne later married the politician Sir Charles Mordaunt, 8th Baronet, becoming Lady Mordaunt.
