Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, widely known as Guercino, was an Italian draftsman and Baroque artist hailing from the region of Emilia, and active in Bologna and Rome. Guercino is Italian for 'squinter,' a nickname that was given to him because he was cross-eyed. He was remarkable for the extreme rapidity of his execution and amassing a vast fortune during his lifetime.
