Flanders of the 1600’s saw the blossoming of a marvelous Baroque period, full of asymmetry, creative coloring, and humor in the choice of subjects, all infused with lifelike detail. The Antwerp School, in particular, contained greats like Rubens, Van Dyck, and Jordaens. This superb bit of whimsy is almost twentieth-century in its irony and cachet.
