Jan Joseph Horemans II was the son of Jan Joseph Horemans the Elder and a prolific genre painter as well as a producer of equine and human portraits, landscapes, and still-lifes. Horemans was a member of Antwerp’s Guild of St. Luke. His family portrait here is, like much of his art, a celebration of middle-class life.
