Self-taught landscapist Thomas Sidney Cooper, nicknamed ‘Cow Cooper’ for his skill at painting cattle and other animals, developed an art school after becoming successful, training Mary Tourtel, creator of the “Rupert Bear” children’s books. Cooper was made a Commander of the Victorian Order at age 98.
