Chinese Surrealist painter Zhang Xiaogang studied at the Sichuan Art Academy in the 1970’s, but rebelled against the Revolutionary Realism taught there. Unable to find work or sell art, Zhang became an alcoholic but recovered, joining the Chinese New Wave Movement of the 1980’s. This part of the “Bloodline-Big Family Series” mocks the one-child state.
