Danish artist Peder Severin Krøyer was part of the “Skagen Painters’, a colony of creators in that coastal town of Jutland. Krøyer had been influenced by the Impressionists before Skagen and became adept at using light and shadow in his beach scenes. Here we see the artist's wife, with lunar light shimmering on water against a loosely brushed background.
