Late Baroque artist Jacopo Alessandro Calvi produced devotional and historical motifs using the cloister of a church as his studio, and also wrote a good deal of poetry. Calvi’s “Saint Jean Baptiste” is a depiction of the herald pointing to a young Christ, while seated near a lamb, one of the latter’s many symbols.
