Mexican painter Angel Zarraga lived and worked in Paris for many years, and developed a unique Cubist style. This 1910 Symbolist canvas by the artist, “The Donation” is almost Pre-Raphaelite in execution. Zarraga’s jarring “decadentista” works from this period, seemingly tortured but produced by a contented painter of means, were later replaced by more geometric abstractions.
