Italian artist Giuseppe Bernardino Bison specialized in landscapes and religious works after a period of study at Venice’s Fine Arts Academy. Bison painted frescoes for several churches and later in his career created pastoral scenes including ‘vedutas’ (“views” and ‘capriccios’ or fictional architectural pictures). Bison’s veduta here is a wonderful image of the ancient chapel of the floating city.
