Massimo Campigli was an Expressionist painter who traveled Europe before WWII and settled in France at the end of his life. Campigli strove to find his own style within the large and amorphous movement that was Expressionism. His “Four Figures” calls to mind classical antiquity of the land of his birth, and even the frescoes of the old Latins.
