This is a portrait of John Frederick of Saxony, (The Magnanimous) whose mother died at his birth, is painted at the age of six. His hat is decorated with ostrich feathers and with a certain degree of trepidation he holds a dagger. Later in life, he cultivated a personal relationship with Martin Luther and became a Champion of the Reformation.
