Hans Memling was a German painter, who in his youth, apprenticed in the Brussels workshop of Rogier van der Weyden and worked in the tradition of the Early Netherlandish Masters. He ultimately established himself in Bruges and became one of the leading artists of his generation. Memling masterpiece, The Annunciation, is based on a previous design by Rogier van der Weyden.
