Anglo-American artist Benjamin West, called “the American Raphael”, was born in the colony of Pennsylvania, but took up residence in London, becoming a member and finally President of the Royal Academy. This West piece shows the Iron Age hero Hector taking leave of his wife Andromache, as he goes off to fight for the glory of Troy.
