Louise Catherine Breslau was a German-born Swiss artist who started drawing as a young girl while confined to her bed with chronic asthma. As a young woman, Breslau journeyed to Paris to continue her studies at the Académie Julian and then to debut at the Paris Salon. In her lifetime Louise received France's Legion of Honor award and became one of the most sought-after women artists of her time.
