Joan Blaeu was the son of cartographer Willem Blaeu; he was the first mapmaker to incorporate the heliocentric theory of Copernicus, a century after the astronomer’s published his ideas. The creation of this map of the capital of Holland from the middle of the 1600’s was surely a delightful experience for the Dutch geographer.
