Ignazio Danti was not only a mapmaker but a priest, mathematician, and stargazer as well. The learned Danti, born into a family of artists and scientists, was made mathematician to the Pope, and also helped reform the calendar, repair Vatican art, and even organized a synod. This map of three lagoons of Italy’s Adriatic coast is well-executed with marvelous detail.
