German-born Franz Xaver Winterhalter was a lithographer and painter, well known for his fashionable court portraiture of 19th Century royalty. Franz began his artistic studies at the Academy of Arts in Munich. Later he traveled to Italy, and In Rome, he composed romantic genre scenes, then on to Paris where he quickly became fashionable.
