Works of Austrian artist Leo Sebastian Humer typified a style called the New Objectivity. Having earned a livelihood as an artist for daily newspapers in Dusseldorf, Humer joined the NSDAP in 1932 and --- assuming a post previously occupied by Paul Klee -- was appointed a professor extraordinaire at the Kunstakademie in Dusseldorf. By 1940, he'd been elevated to full professor status in that city.
