1789 thru 1860

The French Revolution (1789–1799) profoundly changed the entire political system and subsequently the governmental structure that had supported the arts since the early reign of Louis XIV. Although the hierarchy of genres continued to be respected officially, genre painting, landscape, portrait and still life were extremely fashionable...to the mid 19th century.
