1905 thru 1975
The term pulp derives from the cheap wood pulp paper on which the magazines and Illustrations were printed. In 1905 Popular Magazine introduce color covers and the magazine began to take off when the publishers acquired the rights to serialize Ayesha, by H. Rider Haggard. Pulp magazines often featured illustrated short stories of heroic characters, such as The Shadow, Doc Savage, and The Phantom Detective.
