18th - 19th Century
Spanish Art in the 18th and 19th century has some distinctive characteristics which can be partly explained by the Moorish heritage in Spain (especially in Andalusia), and through the political and cultural climate in Spain during the Counter-Reformation and the subsequent eclipse of Spanish power under the Bourbon dynasty was stifling. Artist like Velázquez, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and later, The Valencian, Joaquín Sorolla excelled in dexterous representations during this period.
